James Deeks

Executive Producer and Host

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Jim Deeks has enjoyed a varied and distinctive career that has touched nearly all facets of the communications industry.

After graduating from the University of Toronto with an Honours degree in American History and Political Science in 1971, Jim began his working life as a copywriter at advertising agencies in London, England. Moving back to Canada, Jim was soon hired as a news reporter and anchorman at CTV Toronto. He was later “lured” away to act as Executive Director of the Canadian Open Golf Championship (and later, the Canadian Skins Game, a televised professional golf event.)

The latter part of his career was spent in video production and corporate communications, specializing in issues and crisis management. As his career began to wind down, Jim returned to his television broadcast roots, producing and co-hosting a local interview program called TORONTO FILES, featuring prominent, Toronto-based guests.

This experience motivated Jim to approach WNED-TV in Buffalo, NY, with the idea of expanding the interview concept into a program about successful Canadians, for the edification and entertainment of both American and Canadian viewers of PBS.

The result is CANADA FILES. We hope you enjoy the episodes!

We’d love to hear from you!
